Chiller Basics Training & Troubleshooting

 

Identify what main components are:

 

            Compressor

            Condenser

            Evaporator

            System Purge

 

Identify what the problem is:

 

                        Do we have main system power and is voltage adequate.

                        Are the main fuses blown.

                        Do we have control power.

                        Is the control fuse blown.

                        What diagnostic is present on control panel.

                        Are the condenser and chilled water pumps on.

                        Are their respective starters tripped.

                        Are overloads sized correctly.

                        Are all automatic isolation valves open for that chiller.

                        Are the condenser and chilled water flow switches made.

                        What is the condenser water temperature.

Is the cooling tower full of water.

Is the tower fill valve working ok.

                        Are cooling tower fans running.

                        Are fan starter fuses blown.

                        Are fan starters overloads tripped.

Are overloads sized correctly.

Are fan starter HOA’s in the auto position.

                        Are cooling tower fan belts ok.

                        Is compressor oil level visible in the sight glass.

                        Is oil temperature ok.

                        Is the chiller in the pre or post lube mode.

                        Is the “vanes closed” safety switch ok.

                        Is the system purge running.
